International Day of Rural Women 2023
THEME - "RURAL WOMEN CULTIVATING GOOD FOOD FOR ALL"
The Council planned the International Day of Rural Women, which was held at Qalitu Primary School on October 14, 2023. It was honored by Mrs. Sainiana Rokovucago, CEO of Friends Fiji. Along with the invited guest speakers from Empower Pacific, the Fiji Girmit Council, Than India Maathar Sangam, and our esteemed farmers and women in rural community. They spoke on cancer awareness, health tips and on women empowerment.
We recognized how important it is for rural women and girls to continue the fight against hunger, poverty, and the loss of biodiversity. They have a major impact on land and natural resource management, food security and nutrition, and agricultural productivity.
The event was supported by Unit Trust of Fiji, Fiji National Provident Fund, South Pacific fertilizers Ltd, Sugar Cane Growers Fund and the Medical Team who were present there with their team to provide their services to the participants.
Respected female farmers and women in the rural community who participated in the program were given certificate of participation, which was endorsed by our CEO, Mr. Vimal Dutt, and Honorable Mr. Charan Jeath Singh - Minister for Multi Ethnic Affairs & Sugar Industry. Token of appreciation was awarded to all the Guest Speakers and to the success stories women farmers.
